Free Your Mind Dining on the Beach

Updated: Jul 18, 2024

When I decide to dine out it really is a treat to free myself for a bit from the routine of preparing my own home-cooked meals and the clean-up that follows. Eager to experience a place that lets me relax, laugh, and fill my belly with joyfully made food, my go-to place is always Schmidt's House of Jambalaya. They bat it out of the park every time whether it is a late lunch or at peak dinner service. We always leave completely satiated.

You really can't beat the location on 110 Anchor Way across from South Beach. However, with all these reasons to eat here, it is their vibe and ambiance that brings me back over and over. The staff is kind, the energy of the space is warm and inviting and the servers are simply delightful. There is optional outside seating on their wonderful twinkling-lit deck with a view of South Beach. Sometimes it can get pretty busy but I don't mind busy restaurant energy if the place has an easy flow about it. It does. They serve wine and beer along with seltzer, soda, tea, and coffee at this lunch and dinner restaurant.

The food here is more than satisfying. The portions are good and the menu items are quite tasty. I usually get the Fish n' Chips which have a wonderful crispy light batter with a side of thin-cut french fries and their tartar sauce is just right. I have not tried the shrimp n' chips yet, but they are on my list. The other item I often order is the Shrimp PO'Boy sandwich, it does not let me down. The bread is soft and the shrimp is crunchy just as it should be. The sauce adds to the flavor profile as does the shredded lettuce. We almost always order the Olive Tapenade with Garlic Bread and there is never a crumb left on the plate. The Peel n' Eat Shrimp is another favorite. Simplicity at its finest. They also have a pretty tame kids menu which is nice for the little ones.

I always plan to try new items on the menu, however, once I am sitting in that chair I always sway toward my tried and true. I have the utmost confidence that everything the chef creates is worthy of similar praise so do not hesitate to order other items. Let me know what your favorite menu item is and I promise I will give it a try.

To top off your experience at this gem of a restaurant, they often have LIVE music on the weekends. I mean, really? What more could you do to endear yourself to me Schmidt's House of Jambalaya? Did I forget? Oh yeah, the view! Amazing.

Once you are wrapping up a day of adventure, before you head back to your campsite make a dinner stop at House of Jambalaya, I promise, you will sleep like a baby under those stars.
