We do not pretend we know what your dream getaway looks like.  So long as it includes camping in the wilderness and being under the open sky without light or sound pollution, we have the destination for you.

About Free Your Mind Camping

We love having travelers from all over the world coming to our area for their adventures.  Our campsite location is the gateway to the mountain lakes and just a few miles away from the redwoods and ocean activities. We offer you a different outdoor experience than the more crowded campgrounds.  We have four campsites that are close enough for a group but are separate sites from one another.

What to see

If you are looking to explore there is plenty to see. Wildlife abounds with Roosevelt elk, black bear, bobcat, black-tail deer, mountain lion, fox, beaver, river otters along with our sounds, squirrels, and chipmunks. Nothing like fishing to free your mind of noise. There is large-mouth bass, rainbow trout, eastern rook trout, and catfish too. If steelhead sounds good Dec-April is the season. Reel in Chinook salmon Oct-Nov.

Walking about

Perhaps a botanical tour, mushroom foraging, or walk through the redwood forest trails to bird watch is what piques your interest. The things you can see will be a feast for your eyes. For instance, you might see predatory birds such as the bald eagle, hawk, a rare golden eagle, or falcons. In fact, there are 420 varieties of birds to find. With the ocean, forest, rivers, lagoons, and sand dunes birds make their home throughout the region. You might even see or hear the legendary Sasquatch, as they have been documented as being heard and seen on the property.

Hike, Bike, Walk or Stroll

From hiking in the Redwoods, to bike riding or a botanical quest while bird-watching, countless activities await. You will be surprised how quickly your mind adjusts to the beauty that surrounds you, focusing only on the present moments you are experiencing. We will have you connected to the earthly delights of the great Pacific North West in no time at all.

Kayak, Canoe, Fish, Swim or Scuba

If the calm energy of the river soothes your soul we have many ways to fulfill your thirst for inner peace. You can float, kayak, canoe or swim down the Smith River or raft with a group of friends. There are some deep waters in the river that allow for scuba as well. You might just catch a glimpse of a river otter or depending on the time of year, you might see the salmon running.

Fish, Surf, Sail or Kite Surf

If the sound of waves crashing and seabirds circling is what excites you there are local fishermen to take you out for deep-sea fishing. Check out our blog about fishing in the ocean for some recommended guides. If surfing is more your style, then bring your surfboard or rent one for the day, our ocean will welcome you.  Head to the harbor to see sea-lions up close. For non-swimmers, a walk on our driftwood-filled beaches while hunting for agates will leave your spirit rejuvenated
